Why you should not root your phone | 5 pros and cons of Rooting

If you have been in this rooting business for a while you’ll know the benefit of rooting phones five years back. And while now it is not just the same. Because now i am going Tell you why you should not root your phone.

I might even say sadly the efforts for rooting a phone is not worth considering for the young generation. Don’t get me wrong, people who root their Android phones are still gonna do it. But people who are new to rooting and flashing might just want to skip it and that’s what the OEMs want they don’t want you to root their phone which is not necessarily bad for Android but bad for Android enthusiasts. So all I want to say is that it all depends on you.

What is Rooting

Firstly let me tell you about what is android rooting? actually, the root is the term of the android ecosystem that phone companies don’t want to let us know. It means you can’t access those files and folders that companies hide under the root access. But if you root your device you can access every single files and folder that companies don’t want you to open. And also if you root your phone you will get endless abilities in your hand to do with your device. Actually, you became the superuser of your device after rooting your phone.

Should you Root your phone

Rooting your phone is all about your preference. if you want all those features and customisation on your device that I mention up there then obviously you can root your phone. The main thing you do with your Rooted phone is ability to use rooted apps. And with help of Rooted apps following things can be done easily to your phone.

  • Overclock your phone CPU
  • Increase battery life
  • Increase internal storage
  • Remove bloatwares
  • You can flash custom ROMS

Why you should not root your phone

back in 2013 and 2014, rooting a phone make sense because that was starting years of android and it was not in that stage where it is now. So for better performance and customisation rooting the phone was worth it. But now your phone comes with a powerful CPU so you don’t need anything for performance and for customisation, you can do almost anything with inbuilt UI.

And here are some reason why you should not root your phone.

Rooting your phone will void your manufacturer warranty:

Rooting your phone will actually void your manufacturer warranty. Let’s say you have a rooted phone and something unexpected causes it like, stop working properly and you take it to the store for repairs they fix it up and after doing so they say that the phone is rooted and then you’ll have to pay to cover the cost yourself. But here is the twist, well you can actually unroot your phone and make it look as before. Simply by factory resetting the device and re-locking the bootloader, you can unroot your device for exchange or replacement. But remember whatever you do to unroot your phone it will never be like before.

Rooting means you are putting your phone at risk of brick or dead:

You should avoid rooting your phone because you’re actually putting the phone at risk of becoming bricked. There are two types of phone bricking that can occur hard bricking and soft bricking. So a hard brick is when something is wrong with the hardware itself like the display isn’t working or the battery has died. And this usually isn’t an issue that can come about as a result of rooting your phone. But a soft brick is something software related like a system file missing or the wrong boot image file being loaded in accidentally and when it comes to actually go through the process of rooting your phone.

These can actually be quite a common occurrence. Trust me it’s happened to me and I have experienced the whole boot loop situation and you don’t know how nerve-wracking and frustrating that experience can be. But there are still ways to get yourself out of a soft brick but it will require a computer and a lot of tinkering and installing various bits of software to sort the situation out. And more than anything you’re most likely going to lose your data and so this is another reason why you should not root your phone.

Apps may not be worked:

Another biggest downside to rooting your phones these days is that it will most certainly cause some apps to stop working. So in a lot of countries some banking apps will detect that a phone is rooted and just simply block you from using the app altogether. But in every country, one of the biggest apps that breaks when you root your phone is google pay. So you can still use the app and navigate through its user interface but as soon as you go to load in a payment method it will detect that something is not right with your phone. And it won’t finish the setup process.

This particular reason may actually be a huge deal for someone who uses their banking apps for paying bills and things so, not having it work is pretty annoying. Even there are some workarounds like using Magisk hide and installing some specific Magisk modules that can temporarily allow using google pay. But I’ve found that they only ever work for a day. so you don’t want to be stuck in a situation where you’re out and about you’ve got to pay and whoops google pay ain’t working no more. That is why you should not root your phone.

You will never get the system update:

If you root your device you won’t get a system update for your phone because your phone is no more under the warranty of the manufacturer. That’s not to say that your phone can never be updated. It just becomes a lot harder to do so if you do want to update you’ll have to manually download and side load the update file via ADB. Which is not an easy thing to do but it’s still way more annoying than just downloading and installing it directly via your phone system update tool.

I think these are the reasons why you should not root your phone. I also used to Root my phone but now it’s look worthless to do that because i have pretty decent phone now and i don’t need to use rooted applications anymore. And for customisation the UI of the phone is enough for me.
